Sustainability

Projects to turn mill residues into substitutes for diesel.

Aventra develops projects to produce biomethane from vinasse and filter cake and replace fossil fuels, with a focus on heavy transport. Engineering, operational efficiency and measurement of results guide decisions from each project’s conception.

Making better use of mill residues

Each project considers vinasse and filter cake characteristics, production seasonality and agricultural operating needs. Integration with the mill guides plant sizing and the use of biodigestion products.

Reducing emissions across the chain.

The climate benefit depends on the performance of the whole chain: gas production, treatment, transport and use. Each project’s environmental assessment therefore includes control of methane losses, energy efficiency and logistics. The plants use closed bioreactors, which reduce fugitive methane emissions.

Preserving agricultural potential.

Digestate contains nutrients that can be used in agriculture. We assess its composition and application conditions to guide management at each mill.

Developing alternatives for biogenic CO₂.

CO₂ separated during biogas upgrading can have different destinations, depending on the project configuration. Through Endura Carbon, Aventra also participates in developing infrastructure for permanent geological storage. Commercial CO₂ use and permanent removal are distinct pathways.

Results that need to be measured.

The benefits presented on this website are project objectives. Results depend on each plant’s configuration, operating conditions and the assessment methodologies adopted.

Indicators we will monitor:

  • Biomethane production and quality.
  • Energy consumption.
  • Methane losses.
  • Life-cycle emissions.
  • Digestate characteristics.

When reporting results, we will state the methodology used, the reference period and the assessment boundaries.

People and communities in project development.

In project development, we consider working conditions, relationships with mill teams and potential impacts on neighbouring communities. Facility access, vehicle traffic, noise and emergency preparedness form part of the planning of each plant and its logistics.

Safety and integrity across the chain.

Aventra’s responsibility covers project development, commercial relationships and preparation to operate and deliver biomethane. Learn about our approach to the safety of people, facilities and transport, and the principles that should guide our conduct.
